Comments on Any side effects of vasectomy?
I went home placed an ice pack on the area. Took it easy for a couple of days. No problems, and it has been 29 years.
Other than the pain from the surgery, the only side effect that I had was infertility, but that was the expected result.

For many no, for me yes
I had the “no scalpel method done they punched a single hole in my scrotum.
Its very effective but not without risk. I had mine done in June and lost almost all ejaculatory sensation immediately afterwards (Going on 11 months now). Three months later I developed pain eventully becoming severe enough to require additional surgery which was only partially successful. I was told at my pre-vas consultation that chronic pain “never really happens” and only after I developed it did I read from the government website National Institute for Health
Type in vasectomy pain
that it occurs (according to several studies) in aprox 13.8-33% of men (that last number was for guys suffering pain 4 years afterwards). Vasectomies can be reversed but it is not 100% sucessful and most insurance will not cover it (thousands of dollars) so for the most part consider it “permanent”.

Some will post here and tell you that pvps is an “urban legend” but they have yet to produce a single piece of verifiable evidence to back up their claims. I challenge them to do so.
Here is the best article on vasectomy side effects:
My two non-profit informational websites on vasectomy side effects are listed below as references.
I posted these sites with direct links to all of the relevant medical literature as the current vasectomy consent process is flawed. There is usually no mention of the risk of chronic pain, despite the fact that it is the most common complication that can affect quality of life.
I am not “pro-life”. I have no agenda other than complete informed consent. I run a support group online for men with chronic pain after vasectomy so I have heard the worst outcomes.
Do yourself a favor and read my sites. Most of the men in my support group were not warned and several have had to have reversals for pain. Several have had other corrective surgery for complications. They are in a minority as 85% of men do well after vasectomy, but you do not want to be in the 12 to 15% with persistent pain ..or the 2 to 5% with more severe pain that affects quality of life and sexual function.
Unfortunately, I fell into that minority that urologists will tell you experience chronic pain after the vasectomy.
What was really unexpected was that the vasectomy itself was easy and a quick recovery. My problems started 8 months after the vasectomy when I developed massive debilitating pains due to congested epididymides, leakage at the surgery site which created an immune system response due to sperm outside in the open, and nerve-pain from the granulomas that attached themselves to nerves surrounding the vas and other tissues.
A lying, irresponsible frequent poster named Keine Kinder will post after me and say that the only men who have problems with vasectomy simply don’t follow the doctors orders. That’s a repeated bold-faced lie. I had a qualified urologist, followed his orders, and had a simple recovery after the vasectomy.
The problem is that my body couldn’t “process” and rid my remaining reproductive tract as quickly as sperm was still being made. This created congestion followed by leakage and complications. Pretty simple.
Unexpected consequences? You bet. A medically necessary reconstruction (reversal) and lingering pain, though not as bad as pre-reversal.
The key for any man contemplating vasectomy is this: what are your risk factors and odds of developing what I and a minority of others experience.
Most men do not develop Post-Vasectomy Pain Syndrome, but you should check and see if you possess any of the risk factors, such as high sperm count, overactive immune system (lots of allergies), or prior surgeries or trauma to the spermatic cord (such as hernia, hydroceles, or epididymal infections).
About the only side effect from my vasectomy is a richer sex life with my wife. She had really difficult pregnancies and after the fourth one, was so scared to get pregnant that she wouldn’t have sex anymore. Then I had the vasectomy and it is better than ever!
I had my vasectomy five years ago when I was 23, never had sex prior to that, but my wife to be and my self did not ever want kids. The procedure was performed in a near by clinic, as I my local physician would not perform the procedure, being as I had never had sex, was never married, and was to young in his opnion, to under go such a life altering procedued. I should have listened!
The initial procedure went flawless, however, and most regrettably after the surgery I fell into the very minority group of vasectomy patients, who have horrible, crippling pain constatly. It started about 6 months after the initial procedure, I called the doctor and he said it was nothing to really worry about, but he perscribed additional pain medicatiion. Soon after I got married but not ever haveing sex prior to my surgery I had no idea what a normal sex drive was. I still got erections but the physical act of having sex was painful, so much so that I barely had sex with my wife. Not wanting to go back to the doctor I endured the daily pain and took all sorts of pain medication. After about a year I stopped having sex with my wife all together. My wife did not believe that this was the ongoing result of my surgery, since I did not want to go back for a check up, so she left me as a result. We were only married 2 years and had sex 10 times.
It was then that I contacted a different doctor, a local specialist, who discovered that I had all of the risk factors of Post Vassectomy Pain Syndrome and that the procedure should never have been performed. Now I am soon to be a enuch as this is the cheapest alternative to my problem. A reversal is not even possible in my case, due to the extensive removal of the vas-deference there is nothing to reconnect, and the other corrective surgerys are too expensive. It is a sad thought that I will never have sex again but the pain I experience on a daily basis is worse than you can even imagine. In the end it will be a small price to pay to eliminate the aganoizing pain. Knowing what I know now I would have never gotten a vasectomy.
Do your homework first, and get several opnions, I wish I did. If you do have the procedure make sure it is done by a specialist, someone who does vasectomy’s on a regular basis. It will help to avoid any additional problems that may be encountered. I offer my experience for those who wish to know what the very bad experience can be. I have never heard of any other case like mine, but the truth is that it does happen, although to very, very few.
Let’s begin from the first day. When you go to the bathroom to pee and you’re in a hurry. Don’t be because from now on gravity is all there is to help you. That was the first inkling that I was hood winked. The second thing is sex. Remember how it use to be great because now all it is, it’s just OK. No revelation there to say don’t do it. It’s better to abstain. Last is when 10 years past and you need to use the bathroom real quick and get back to work. Sometimes you just can’t shut things off. It started when you got the vasectomy but now it’s getting worse.
